Kidney/urinary system

The kidneys, ureter, bladder and urethra are all parts of the equine urinary system. Typical clinical signs of a urological disease include problems or pain when urinating, frequent urination (polyuria – PU), excessive thirst (polydipsia – PD) and colouration of urine. Renal insufficiency is a common disease caused by infections, inflammations, toxic substances, certain medications, urinary stones, inflammation of the bladder and bladder rupture in foals. Diagnostic methods often used in this context include laboratory tests, endoscopies of the urinary passages, and ultrasound scans of the kidneys and urinary tract.
