Such examinations often reveal changes in horses’ back – however, it has long been known that not every identifiable change is a cause of pain and clinical signs. By the same token, the fact a horse is still willing and able to perform is by no means a guarantee that it is completely free from pain. It is fact that many horses are retired before their time due to chronic back pain.
